\"\"<\/a>The cloister of artisans and artists on the Giudecca island.<\/h2>\n

A FIFTHTEEN-CENTURY CLOISTER ON THE GIUDECCA HOUSES ARTIST\u2019S STUDIOS, CRAFT WORKSHOPS AND CULTURAL SPACES.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Campo San Cosmo on the island of Giudecca, one of the most picturesque places in Venice, is home to the former Renaissance convent of Santi Cosma e Damiano<\/strong>, next to the sixteenth-century church<\/strong>, which has now been converted into an innovation centre for new enterprises, events and courses<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The entire convent complex<\/a> <\/strong>was restored by the Municipality of Venice in the 1990s to incorporate public housing flats, workshops for artists and craftsmen <\/strong>and cultural spaces, such as the Fondazione Bevilacqua La Masa<\/a> <\/strong>dedicated to contemporary art, the Centro Teatrale di Ricerca<\/a> <\/strong>and the Fondazione Archivio Luigi Nono<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

In the cloister of the former convent, the Fondazione Bevilacqua La Masa offers nine studios<\/a> <\/strong>for the benefit of young artists<\/a><\/strong>, while contemporary art exhibitions are periodically staged in the Sala del Camino<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

There are around ten arts and crafts studios and workshops in the cloister, all of which are open to the public. They include the studios of the artist Monica Martin<\/a><\/strong> and of master glassmaker Stefano Morasso<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n
