\"\"<\/a>Venice is home to prestigious universities<\/strong> such as Ca\u2019 Foscari University and Iuav University, as well as two historic Art and Music schools<\/strong>, Benedetto Marcello Conservatory of Music and Venice Academy of Fine Arts, hosted in ancient palaces of high<\/strong> artistic, historical and architectural value<\/strong>. Among their most famous alumni are Italian politician and economist Ugo La Malfa<\/strong>, pianist and conductor Gian Francesco Malipiero<\/strong> and architect Carlo Scarpa<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Ca’ Foscari University of Venice <\/strong><\/p>\n

Founded on August 6th 1868 as Trade High School, the head office of the Ca’ Foscari University of Venice<\/a><\/strong> is housed in a\u00a0spectacular Gothic palace<\/strong> overlooking the widest curve of the Grand Canal. It has over 20,000 students, and offers 40 different foreign languages courses. Temporary exhibitions<\/strong> featuring documents from the University Historical Archive<\/a> <\/strong>take place on the ground floor of Ca’ Foscari palace. Special guided tour will take you inside Ca’ Foscari historic palaces<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Universit\u00e0 Iuav di Venezia<\/strong><\/p>\n

Universit\u00e0 Iuav di Venezia<\/a><\/strong> is the only University in Italy that offers courses in all the disciplines of project planning<\/strong>: architecture, urban planning, design and multimedia, fashion, theatre and visual arts. Online exhibitions<\/a><\/strong> explore the collections of architectural drawings and images held at the University Archive. Architecture exhibitions<\/a><\/strong> are regularly staged at Ca’ Tron<\/a><\/strong>, overlooking the Grand Canal, at the Tolentini complex<\/a><\/strong> – whose entrance area was created by Carlo Scarpa – and at the former Venetian cotton mill. Massimo Scolari’s wings<\/a><\/strong> are visible on the roof of the cotton mill.<\/p>\n

Benedetto Marcello Conservatory of Music<\/strong><\/p>\n

Benedetto Marcello Conservatory of Music, a traditional musical institution, fraught with history, vivid culture, elegant memories<\/strong>, was founded in 1876. It is located in Palazzo Pisani<\/strong>, Venice’s most imposing patrician palace, second in size only to the Doge’s Palace. Visitors can explore the palace via guided tours<\/a><\/strong>. The library <\/strong>is among the most important in Italy and has a heritage of over 60,000 volumes; the Music Museum<\/strong> has a collection of ancient instruments, manuscripts and memorabilia. Performances and events <\/a><\/strong>regularly take place in the spectacular Concert Hall.<\/p>\n

Venice Academy of Fine Arts <\/strong><\/p>\n

The Accademia di Belle Arti<\/a><\/strong>, founded in 1750, is one of the oldest Academies of Fine Arts in Italy. Its first President was Giambattista Tiepolo<\/strong>. Not far from the head office, the former Ospedale degli Incurabili <\/strong>(a building complex designed by Italian architect Sansovino), the Academy has an exhibition space, the Magazzino del Sale n. 3<\/a><\/strong>, just next to the Vedova Museum<\/a><\/strong> (the Venetian artist Emilio Vedova taught at the Academy for over a decade).<\/p>\n

Venice is also home to other important institutions: the Venice International Universit<\/a>y<\/strong>, a consortium of 20 universities from all over the world, on the island of San Servolo; the Global Campus of Human rights<\/a><\/strong>, an inter-disciplinary centre of excellence supported by the EU; the Faculty of Canon Law Saint Pio X<\/a><\/strong>, the only one in Italy existing outside of Rome. Mestre hosts the Venice Salesian Institution of Higher Education<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n
