Christmas edition for \u201cDetourism: Venice newsletter\u201d<\/strong>, the newsletter prepared by the Tourism Office of the Town of Venice, is sent free of charge to hundreds of subscribers every week, providing valuable food for thought and insights on the history, art and culture of Venice.
\nWe are proud to publish some\u00a0selected contents of such newsletter (see previous post: \u201cDetourism for the Up and Down the Bridges<\/a>\u201c). On our website, in several episodes, we will only present some samples (see all posts in our archive page “Detourism Newsletter<\/a>“), but the invitation addressed to all the friends of the Up and Down the Bridges is to fill in the online form<\/a> proposed by the Town of Venice to receive it directly in their email box every week.

Art\u2019s best Nativity Scenes in Venice<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Stunning Christmas paintings <\/strong>adorn Venice churches.<\/strong> Here are five Nativities<\/strong>, from the sixteenth to the eighteenth century, you should see during the Christmas season (and after!). Unexpected art treasures <\/strong>will appear inside the churches of the city.<\/p>\n

  1. The canvas by Tintoretto<\/strong>, completed in 1581, which originally interprets the theme of the Adoration of the Shepherds<\/em>, at the Scuola Grande di San Rocco<\/a><\/strong>.<\/li>\n
  2. The Nativity with Saints<\/em>, one of Giovanni Battista Cima da Conegliano<\/strong>\u2018s masterpieces, painted in the early sixteenth century, at the Church of Santa Maria dei Carmini<\/a><\/strong>.<\/li>\n
  3. The altarpiece with the Nativity of Christ<\/em> by Girolamo Savoldo, <\/strong>one of the greatest Venetian painters of the sixteenth century, at the Church of San Giobbe<\/a><\/strong>.<\/li>\n
  4. The sixteenth-century Adoration of the Magi<\/em> by Bonifacio de\u2019 Pitati<\/strong>, which you can see in the sacristy of the Basilica of Santa Maria dei Frari<\/a><\/strong>.<\/li>\n
  5. The Adoration of the Shepherds<\/em> painted at the beginning of the eighteenth century by Antonio Balestra<\/strong>, in the Church of San Zaccaria<\/a><\/strong>, whose impressive fifteenth-century facade is a work of Mauro Codussi.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    New Year\u2019s Day Concert 2021<\/strong><\/h3>\n

    2021<\/strong> is approaching and in Venice it is not New Year\u2019s Eve<\/strong> without the auspicious concert<\/strong> of the Fenice Opera house<\/strong>, broadcast live on Rai 1 on Friday 1 January at 12:20. Live concerts and operas are available on the You Tube channel of La Fenice<\/a><\/strong>, including the Christmas Concert<\/a><\/strong> with music by Corelli and Pergolesi.<\/p>\n
